successful planning applications

We’re thrilled that two of our affordable housing schemes have been granted planning permission in the last couple of months.

Northolt Grange which will provide 92 affordable homes with healthy streets for London Borough of Ealing, designed by HOK Architects, received unanimous approval at committee.

Burgoynes Depot, a complex development comprising four new buildings including the retention of the façade of a Victorian workhouse, will deliver 48 affordable homes in London Borough of Newham. The scheme is being designed to meet Passivhaus objectives to reduce energy use and carbon emissions both during both construction and once the building is occupied.

completed structures

Seven of our projects in London Borough of Newham have reached completion of the structure on site, providing 108 new homes including Anne Street and David Street with Jerram Falkus; Bramall Close, Idmiston Road and Malmesbury Terrace with Rooff; and Sutton Road and Leather Gardens with Kind & Co.

Sutton Road and Leather Gardens have been designed to reach Passivhaus Certification.

Other projects which have recently reached completion of the structure are Palace Court, the conversion of an end of terrace period property in West London into 6 flats with Parrot Design & Build, and an eco-conscious, carbon neutral new build private house in Surrey with one-world design. Professional photos pending for both so watch this space!

new projects

We have commenced construction stage design of several Passivhaus Certified buildings including John Street (70 residential homes) and Greenhill Centre (81 homes) with Higgins Partnership, MEPK and Haworth Tompkins; Army & Navy and Morse Close with Kind & Co and Tooley Foster; and Alexandra Drive with Chase Construction and Darnton B3.

We continue to build our database of typical details for multi-unit Passivhaus developments; please do get in touch if you are interested in a lunchtime CPD on this (info@graphicstructures.com), and keep an eye out for our mini-series on Passivhaus construction details, coming soon.

We were pleased to talk to BDC Magazine about Passivhaus and low-carbon design – you can read the article online here: MYEBOOK - BDC 295

Awards and Activities

Our Director, Eleanor, was awarded a place on the Women in Engineering Society and Guardian Jobs ‘Top 50 Women in Engineering’ list for 2022 (#WE50). The theme this year was inventors and innovators. She received her award at a ceremony in the Institute of Civil Engineers.

Annie has been busy visiting schools for STEM careers events along with other industry women from the Forging Links group. She is out there spreading the word about what a great career engineering can be and inspiring the next generation.

Similarly, we are lucky to be joined by Roshan, who is spending the summer with us after his second year at Warwick University. Ben O’Callaghan has also joined our growing team as a Graduate Engineer.

And the team has been kicking back and relaxing on numerous socials including a recent visit to Bounce where our reigning ping-pong champion (Director David) went unbeaten again!
